I swam in Crater Lake for the first time. Fleetwood Cove Trail in Crater Lake National Park is only 1.1 miles each way, but it drops more than 600 feet straight down to the water. Which means that climb back up? An absolute butt-burner. Bring plenty of water if you go. As I stepped into that deep blue water, I started to tremble. I even teared up. This lake… this place… means so much to me. Crater...

"Free parking lot close to the trail. You take the rim trail a little ways southbon alongside the east side of the road and tyhe hang a left at the sign and start the ascent via a series of varied length switchbacks until you reach the fire lookout. You will get some crater views to the east but do not forget to look west as there are great views tooz especially at sunset."

Understanding Crater Lake's Unique Geology

Crater Lake is a testament to the power of nature, formed approximately 7,700 years ago by the violent eruption and subsequent collapse of Mount Mazama. This cataclysmic event created a massive caldera, which then filled with an astonishing amount of rainwater and snowmelt over centuries. The result is the deepest lake in the United States, renowned for its exceptional clarity and vibrant blue color. TikTokInstagram

The lake's purity is remarkable because it has no rivers flowing into or out of it. Its water is replenished solely by precipitation. This isolation contributes to its incredibly pure water, which scientists marvel at. The indigenous Klamath people have a deep historical and spiritual connection to the lake, originally naming it 'Giiwas' before it was renamed Crater Lake by settlers. TikTok

Exploring the park offers a chance to witness this geological wonder firsthand. From the rim viewpoints to the trails that descend towards the water, the landscape tells a story of volcanic fury and serene transformation. Instagram
