✨Entering our camping era✨ Spent the weekend at Dead Horse Ranch State Park, outside of Cottonwood, Arizona. It was so beautiful! We loved the Verde River & found a little swimming hole! While it is a bit north of Phoenix, the temps were still high 90s during the day and dipped down to 70s late at night. All in all, I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ as our first family camping trip! Reviews Summary

Visitors generally praise Dead Horse Ranch State Park for its beautiful scenery, clean facilities, and diverse activities like hiking and kayaking. The Verde River trails are a particular highlight for families. However, some guests have noted that summer campsites offer limited shade and can be very warm, and there have been mixed reviews regarding the accessibility features and campground host conduct.

"First time camping at Dead horse ranch campground. The bathrooms are some of the nicest campground bathrooms I’ve experienced. Very clean and well maintained. We camped in spot 117 which wasn’t bad, but the light from the bathroom was very bright and impacted our star gazing and sleeping. If you are going during the summer months, the campsites have very little shade so it can be very warm until the sun goes down. There’s also a lot of car traffic around the campsites. On the positive side, We enjoyed using the dish washing sink and the hiking trails all around the campground and the staff were very friendly. We will definitely be back!"

Meredith

"Nice park, but the "accessible features" it brags about are a joke! Yes there are ramps, but using them in a wheelchair leaves A LOT to be desired. The biggest joke was the ADA campsites. Elevated platforms made of composite slats... no way to stake down the tent? And the ramp to the tent is blocked off? You have to get past the showers to use the toilet? One campground host was drunk and another couldn't keep a dog on a leash. The gate attendant was constantly outside the office smoking. Made the best of it, but definitely will not be back or recommend to anyone who rolls... shame!!"

Kelly McCall

"A little disappointed that they raised the prices but still had a great time. It's a beautiful park with plenty to offer. Views of the desert and red rocks of Sedona in the distance. Plus plenty of shade and trails right to the Verde River. There's an abundance of wildlife."
