My first trip to Harbison State Forest! 🌲 My dad biked and I walked and jogged the trails with mom. I was extra good and was so happy when I got to trot near the bike. I worked on focusing on the trails, to stay calm when other cyclists passed up, to jog without pulling mom (small habits since I’m still growing), and to relax at our car homebase🏕️ My parents brought me lots of water, snacks, and ...

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Harbison State Forest for its extensive trail system, making it ideal for hiking, biking, and running. The beautiful natural setting, especially during fall, and the convenience of its location near Columbia are frequently highlighted. However, some note that the trails aren't always the most scenic and strict adherence to gate closure times is necessary.

"Beautiful forest for hiking and biking. The hours say 9 - 4:30 online but there is a part that is open until 8 PM. The Midlands Mountains are beautiful"

Jaxon Hale

"Can’t believe I lived near here for years and never checked out this place. Lots of interesting trails in the 5 mile or less range that you can chain together to form longer walks.

Came here on a fall day and walked the 3.4 mile Midlands Mountain Trail, which took us about 1.5 hours. Saw lots of colorful leaves, crossed a couple of bridges over dry creek beds, and generally enjoyed replacing the sound of traffic with the sound of birds for a bit.

Parking for the day costs $5 (cash or check, or buy a pass online and print it out). Note that they really do close the gates at 4:30 PM; there was a ranger waiting by the gate when we left near then."

Gabe Will

"Great local place to get some trail riding in. Never super busy and the trails are maintained fairly well. Trails are not super scenic but still great considering the location"
