"Really enjoyed Root Glen trail. Just easy to walk around and "get lost" for a while. Lots of random seating areas and places to relax. Hamilton College is gorgeous to explore as well! I greatly appreciated the tree signs, identifying species all along the hike. Very suitable for dogs too!"

Kyle Wilson

"Root Glen is a unique arboretum and great place for a walk located on the campus of Hamilton College. Root Glen was developed by the Root family beginning in 1850 and maintained by the same family for three generations. What can be seen here today is the result of years of work and planning.
The walking paths here are made from red shale, are easy to follow, and add to the beauty of the natural surroundings. The paths all connect together and go in a circular pattern. The bridges over the stream add to the surroundings. There are some other trails which connect to the glen in the woods nearby. There was no signs indicating where those trails lead. In many ways Root Glen is a mix of a nice hike in the woods and a stroll through a botanical garden. It offers a bit of nature, peace, and serenity. Best of all it is free to all.
Parking for Root Glen is near the Hamilton College Admissions Office. After walking Root Glen, be sure to take in the nearby Hamilton College campus as well. The college is historic and has charming buildings."
