"What a true hidden gem! Everyone knows the Bidwell Mansion, but this home is almost completely unknown. I wasn't expecting it to have so many rooms and so many fascinating stories. The house is open only a few hours on weekends and we almost missed it, because they keep the door locked and we didn't notice that there is a bell that you're supposed to ring. I see a lot of visitors get confused by the locked door. When I was there the docents were discussing making a sign with clearer instructions on ringing the bell.
Tours are officially supposed to run every hour at the top of the hour, but in practice there is no set time frame as they just run them whenever someone shows up. The tour lasts about an hour and is well worth the $5 "donation" fee, as the guides are chock-a-block full of information. So many interesting stories associated with house. Definitely should not be missed if you're a history lover. Will definitely try to come back for their Christmas festival."

"A walk through time. Come learn about a doctor who arrived in Chico when it had only been established 3 years prior. Learn about the instrumental roles he played not only in Chico, but Californa in regard to medicine and hygiene. The home is beautiful and built to his and his wifes specifications. True craftsmanship down to the wallpaper and other interior design chosen. The kids enjoyed the tour as well. Very informing."
