What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Jefferson Theater is widely praised as a fantastic venue for live music, lauded for its intimate atmosphere, excellent sound and lighting, and unique sloped GA floor that ensures good views for all. Its historic charm and convenient location on the Downtown Mall add to its appeal, though some attendees note that the venue can get crowded for popular acts and advise arriving early.
"Really nice concert venue, staff was overall pleasant and the sound and lights were phenomenal. Bathrooms clean and venue well kept! I recommend cheap parking about a block away at Water Street Parking Garage (the actual garage not the lot, it was $11 for around 7/8ish hours)"

"Great venue in Charlottesville on the downtown Mall. With many stores and food options. Easy parking in the parking deck just down and across the street. Affordable drinks. Nice staff. I've been twice and liked it both times. I will definitely go back."

"We came here for the Mark Broussard show on 2/28/25. This was my first time here and I would absolutely come back. We purchased tickets online ahead of time. I was hesitant about GA but saw the other reviews and would agree there is plenty of space but I’m sure it does get packed for certain bands. It was not elbow to elbow for this show which was nice. The floor in GA is sloped which was awesome and why are not more places like this? What a great concept. Getting in to the venue was a breeze. Staff were all friendly and courteous. The bar just inside the lobby was crowded but there was another bar down under the stairs which you access through GA. There is a place to sit down in there if you want. The sound was great.
One thing I will say is, some man standing near us stomped his boots on the floor after EVERY song. Just because the floor is wooden doesn’t mean we need to act like we are on the high school bleachers at a football rally. It doesn’t sound loud in the video but trust me it was obnoxious. See my video for an example. Applause and yelling will let the musicians know you are having a good time there’s really no need for boot stomping at least at the show I was at.
This is a great smaller space for seeing live music."
