"Great ride! Had a lovely time with Comanche. Not one issue. He only tried to graze once, while we were waiting to cross the road (but was denied), and not one time after. Heard rumor that he liked to kick, but he was the perfect gentleman.
Saw a review where someone felt like they were in danger (because Comanche was kicking). I would venture a guess that they are simple not horse-minded folks and therefore had no compunction to "take control" of the animal. When a trail guide says to take up slack and pull back on the reins, you really should. Horse knows when it's got free-rein. (That's why that's an expression.) You can be a first-time rider and if you LISTEN to your guide and DO WHAT THEY SAY, almost any trail horse will be easy-peasy. They're trained. To walk on a trail. With you...on their back.

"I had the worst experience at this horse place. I was so excited to ride a horse again, as I have always loved the animal but my horse (Comanche) was out of control and I prayed the entire ride that it would end. After my horse freaked out and tried to kick another, I thought for sure that I would be thrown off and killed in the woods. It was a blessing when I finally got off that horse. I also did not appreciate the trail guide yelling at me and blaming my horse's behavior on me. I have nothing against the animals but when you say that it is my fault that I almost got thrown off a horse that belongs to you, I question that a little bit. Are you properly training your horses? I have been horse back riding in the mountains of Colorado, up cliffs and small ledges and my horse not once did anything to me that I would see as violent or frightening. My six year old sister managed to ride a horse just fine and her horse did nothing to her as well. Yet when I come here, if I make one wrong movement my horse apparently will start acting violently. I sat in fear for the rest of the ride. I can't convey how terrible of an experience that was. I have never been so scared for my life. Do NOT go here. Especially if you're a beginner. Save yourself the money and don't go on an hour long ride full of fear and anxiety."

"I am updating with this news - The Equestrian center is closed and has been for a couple of years. Sadly the owner became ill and there was no one to step in and keep the stable running. There are no horses for trail rides at Latta. The trails of the Nature plantation are still there and maintained, there is a parking area for you to bring your horse in a trailer. Please call the Nature Center for more info, Not Historic Latta Plantation or The Raptor Center unless you have questions about their facility."
