What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the West Virginia State Capitol for its stunning architecture, particularly the iconic gold dome, and the well-maintained grounds that offer a peaceful atmosphere for exploration and photography. While metered parking is noted, the overall experience is considered a worthwhile visit for its beauty and representation of state pride.
"Nice capitol building in the heart of Charleston. The building itself is reminds me of many of the other state capitol buildings in other states but it has its own unique design as well. There are plenty of walking spaces outside of the building and other sites and buildings in the vicinity that you can visit. All of the parking that is available outside of the building is metered, which I did not like but it was not too expensive either. Nice attraction to visit if you are in the capitol."

"The West Virginia State Capitol is one of the most impressive buildings I’ve ever seen. The architecture is absolutely stunning, with its towering columns, grand staircase, and that iconic gold dome shining brilliantly in the sunlight. Just standing at the base of the steps gives you a sense of how much pride and history this place holds for the state.
The grounds are peaceful and well-maintained, making it a great spot to walk around, take photos, or just admire the beauty of the structure. The symmetry and detail of the building really stand out, especially on a clear day when the blue sky frames the dome perfectly. It’s a quiet yet powerful place that represents the heart of West Virginia government and identity.
Whether you’re a local or just passing through Charleston, the Capitol is definitely worth a visit. It’s not just a government building, it’s a work of art and a symbol of the state’s heritage. I highly recommend stopping by to experience it for yourself."

"Beautiful golden dome with black inlay that sometimes looks solid gold in the sun.
I enjoyed being able to walk through most of the building and see the Supreme Court, which I have been told was the model for the larger version at the US Fddersl Supreme Court
I also was able to see the inside of the Capital dome rotunda, observe the Senate and view the governors art exhibit of children's art.
Accessible restrooms. Accessible paid parking in central lot"
