What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Center Lake is highly praised for its exceptionally clean and inviting waters, making it a favorite for swimming and enjoying the scenic beauty. Visitors appreciate the well-maintained trails, the peaceful atmosphere, and the value of the park entry fee. While some areas, particularly the beach, can get crowded, the evenings offer a more serene experience. Limited cell service is a minor drawback for some.
"We visited Center Lake, SD at the beginning of August, 2024. We camped in the upper loop which was clean and had enough space to not feel crowded with other campers. The outhouses were well maintained and didn't smell bad. Down at the lake, it was much busier than expected, considering how off the main road the lake is. The parking lot was full and cars were parked well down the road. (The outhouses here didn't smell so good..) But when we visited the water later in the evenings, the water was perfect and there were few to no people around. We also enjoyed the trail around the lake, which was only 1.5 miles with some nice views of the water."

"Small quiet beach. It’s well-maintained with a toilet and shower area both covered. Plenty of picnic tables with a few of them covered. Access to a few 3 mile hiking trails. Great parking, fit my 1 ton truck. No problem.
$20 gets you in the state park for seven days. Ensure you get a tag or they will give you a ticket."

"Very nice set up for groups in the group area! Individual spots for privacy, but close enough for youth groups etc. Clean vault toilets. Water spigots in several places. Showers by the beach. A nice outdoor theater area (bring your own projector) good fishing and trails in the area. No cell service unless you hike the lost trails to the top side of the south east corner of the lake."
