"On our last visit there over 10 years ago, we ended up staying at the Chateau. I got a kick out of our son asking why there was no tv in the room. Dinner was great, I chose the Buffalo, and my wife went with the salmon. Both were good, and while there really isn't any other hotel, motel, or restaurant anywhere close by, we were on vacation and splurged.
On our Cave Tour the next day, because one of the guides made a joke regarding our vehicle (Search & Rescue all over it). They took my wife and son up front and asked me to take the rear to make sure nobody got lost. This was just perfect for me, as I video taped and took pictures without anyone bothering me.
The guides were absolutely great fun, and everyone at the Chateau treated us to a good time while we were there. I really like the remote area and the story of President Theodore Roosevelt establishing the Oregon Caves National Monument in 1909 to protect the caves from vandalism.
After living in many different States and lots of time passed, we find it comforting the we ended up living within driving range of the Caves now. We will treasure our visit and upcoming visits, as there are many hiking trails around the mountain too."

"We heard a rumor that the Chateau would be shutting down for a couple of years for needed renovations and decided to visit before it closed. We booked with other friends and made reservations for dinner. What a pleasant evening. The service was over the top. Even made a fire in the fireplace for us. We entertained ourselves (and probably everyone else in the lobby) playing Pictionary. It was great to be unchained from technology for the weekend. I was told the current leaseholder for the Chateau will not run the hotel when it reopens in two years, it will be taken over by a corporation. I hope the new company will keep up the exemplary customer service. On a slightly negative note...the mattresses were horrible, and the couple in the room next door never turned their light out, so light leaked out into our room. My husband and I kept falling into the center of the mattress. The room was very cold and under the blankets I was very warm. I could not get the temperature just right. Slept horrible, but the whole experience was amazing."

"It's truly a unique place. It's kind of like an old hotel sitting in a really isolated, but beautiful place. Our room wasn't what we really needed (very few power outlets, no AC, limited space in bathroom, creaky floors, and a queen bed...needed a king). The food in the restaurant was pretty good, and the waitresses were attentive. The evening "entertainment" was a local poet...I'd probably have to give him 1 star. It's not an inexpensive place, but I could see how it's charm could win you over."
