While some praise the greens and sand traps, others report issues with tee boxes and patchy greens. "Tee boxes are trash, greens are beat to hell, could use some of the trees trimmed. We paid 58 for a senior rate. Love the layout, but the city of carmel needs to do better. We will not be back."

"TL;DR - Most hectic golf course I’ve ever visited. A complete disappointment. The starter working here in summer of 2025 is a complete Point Of Sale. PLEASE read my full review before deciding to play here. DO NOT play here if you want to enjoy your round of golf.

June 2025 review (August 2025 below):
Went on a Thursday evening at 6:00 pm. Had to park on the street and walk half a mile to get to the clubhouse because there was some ridiculous kids swim meet at the pool there. The pro shop did not feel the need to tell us that when we called to make our tee time earlier that day. Additionally, signage was completely lacking. It was not clear where the clubhouse entrance was from the parking lot. Just walked around for a few minutes while we looked for it, while simultaneously being given annoyed looks from the 30 drivers trying to find a parking spot in the absolutely packed parking lot. Furthermore, the “additional parking” area is not appropriately marked. There were people just straight up parked in some dudes back yard who had property bordering the course. If I lived in the neighborhood near this course, I would be livid. I would attend every single city board meeting until they straightened this golf course out.

Once we got on the course, it was actually in nice condition (mid June). That’s about the only positive I have for the course. The starter was condescending and rude. This was BY FAR the narrowest course I’ve ever played. Come prepared to use your loud voice here.

August 2025 Review:
I decided to give it another try in late August. This time I was able to play the back 9. This course is HORRENDOUSLY managed. Again, 6:00pm tee time on a Thursday. Show up to the tee at 5:55, there are 6 people waiting. One pair says they’re at 5:50. Another pair says they’re 5:50, but they don’t know they’re together. At 6:05 another cart rolls up and says “hey we’re with them” to the first group of 5:50 players. At this point, the 5:40 tee time group had just finished teeing off. We finally teed of 15 minutes late, and the second twosome that was supposed to be at 5:50 got put with us. The passive aggressive starter tells us “if you can’t see the group down the hill, you’re clear to hit”. So we hit. We drove down the fairway and our balls are inches from the group in front of us, still playing. Thanks for doing your job, starter.

While on the first tee, the other twosome in our group topped their drives due to the pressure of having the entire queue of people waiting at the tee staring them down. The solo behind us said to the starter: “these guys suck, I’m gonna drive ahead and join the group in front of them”. Starter replies: “yeah go ahead it doesn’t get much slower than these guys”. So now, we had a five-some in front of us for the whole round. And you’d never guess - we were tailing them the whole round. We waited for them on every single tee box.

And don’t let me forget, the driving range is inexcusable. It is up against hole 18. The fairway and rough on hole 18 had about 50 driving range balls throughout- seriously. It made it so hard to find our regular balls. Especially while playing a yellow ball.

The back 9 here is a little bit better than the front 9 in terms of course layout, but it’s still incredibly short and incredibly narrow. There are a couple holes (15 & 18) which were horribly designed. They clearly tried to cram this course into a place it was never meant to fit. This land would be much better utilized as a nice park.

Late august update - the course is no longer in good condition. In fact, it’s miserable. Tee boxes were muddy, greens were patchy to the point of throwing putts off-line, and crabgrass EVERYWHERE. Greens were mowed horribly, they did not mow the edge pass, only the lines. So around the edges of the greens there was triangular patches of super thick, fringe-like grass which ruined multiple putts. Just bad condition overall."

"Played here four times. This is a really good course in Carmel Indiana. With a fair price around 50 dollars during the week to ride 18 with a cart. Greens are smooth and has interesting challenges throughout the course with an overall nice layout! Rough is nice and course is just overall well maintained. Great sand traps as well! Upset about them not having their Cheesburgers at the moment. It’s a huge reason I get excited to come here. Hopefully this review changes that! Will definitely be back but I need that cheeseburger!"

Navigating Pace of Play and Course Management

Brookshire Golf Club has faced significant criticism regarding its pace of play and overall course management. Multiple reviews detail frustratingly slow rounds, often exacerbated by a lack of organization at the tee boxes and a perceived condescending attitude from the starter. One reviewer recounted a particularly chaotic experience involving multiple groups vying for tee times, leading to a delayed start and a five-some ahead for the entire round. Reddit

This mismanagement extends to parking and signage, with visitors sometimes struggling to find the clubhouse entrance or adequate parking due to events like swim meets. The course's layout, while offering challenges, is also described as being very narrow, which can contribute to slower play if golfers are frequently searching for lost balls. Reddit

For visitors, the advice is to arrive well in advance of your tee time, be prepared for potential delays, and maintain a patient attitude. While the course itself may offer some enjoyable holes, the operational aspects seem to be a recurring point of contention for many golfers. Reddit

Understanding Course Conditions and Maintenance

The condition of Brookshire Golf Club's course receives a wide spectrum of feedback. Some golfers have praised the greens as smooth and the overall maintenance as good, highlighting well-kept sand traps and a pleasant layout. These positive experiences often come with a fair price point, making it an attractive option for affordable golf. Reddit

However, a significant number of reviews paint a different picture, describing tee boxes as 'trash,' greens as 'beat to hell,' and the course suffering from crabgrass and poor mowing practices. Specific issues mentioned include patchy greens that affect putting and fringe-like grass around the edges ruining putts. The driving range also faces criticism, with balls frequently found on the 18th fairway, complicating play. Reddit

It appears that course conditions can be inconsistent, possibly varying with the season or recent maintenance efforts. While some find it a 'really good course,' others feel it has 'gone downhill' and is 'miserable.' Visitors should temper expectations regarding pristine conditions and be prepared for potential wear and tear on the greens and tee boxes. Reddit
