Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Cape Charles Museum & Welcome Center for its surprisingly engaging exhibits packed into a compact space. Highlights include the impressive diesel engine and detailed local history, making it a worthwhile stop for all ages. Some minor inconsistencies in opening times were noted, and a reminder to bring cash for purchases is helpful.

"I did not expect this museum to be as interesting as it was! Its an old powerhouse and one of the giant diesel engines is still inside. If you're lucky, they will run it in demo mode for you too! So much history of the region packed in one building from the railroad, telephones, the ferry that used to operate, and even the history of the formation of the Chesapeake Bay. Many other things on display too. Fun for all ages!"

"My 3 boys loved visiting this museum! Highlights included seeing the caboose, playing with the old phones, and trying to open the safes. We visit Cape Charles every year so they loved seeing old pictures of the town. The guide was very friendly and welcoming!"

Jennifer Maess

"We visited on a Sunday and almost didn’t stay because the person opening the museum arrive almost 15 minutes late. The museum is a gem. It is small but includes a lot about the history of Cape Charles.

There were displays of artifacts and books that had lots of pictures and information. There was also a fairly long video about the building of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. They also have a display modeling the bridge and tunnel system.

It was small but well worth the visit. They also have a few cases of items/books for sale. They only take cash!"
