What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Champlain College receives mixed reviews, with praise for its beautiful Burlington location and some exceptional professors. However, concerns are frequently raised about the 'CORE' curriculum's structure, potential program effectiveness, and high tuition costs, leading some to suggest exploring more affordable alternatives.
"Some of the professors are great. Some of them only care about memorization. Some just got their tenure renewed and talk about their hot air balloon hobby all class.
They also split their semesters between courses relevant to your major and their "CORE" which is typically nonsense english/writing classes under the guise of world knowledge.
But that means if you get put on academic probation, you will be set back an entire year because you missed an alternating semester and you can't make it up until next year. All for the privilege of paying through the nose for a sub-par education.
I heard their game programming major only had 5 graduates from a class of 30+ guinea pigs. That's the kind of school this is. They will spend your time & money to test new curriculum. And if it fails, they keep your money and you get nothing.
Just go to a community college. A year will be less than the cafeteria plan at this dumpster fire."

Academic Experience and Curriculum
Specific programs, such as game programming, have faced scrutiny for low graduation rates, with reports of a significant drop-off from initial enrollment to completion. This has led some to question the effectiveness and value of certain majors. However, the David L. Cooperrider Center for Appreciative Inquiry, within the Robert P. Stiller School of Business, has been highlighted as an 'incredibly enriching and transformative experience' for those pursuing strength-based leadership and organizational development.
For those considering Champlain, it's crucial to thoroughly research the specific program of interest, including its track record and graduate outcomes. The college's location in Burlington, adjacent to the University of Vermont, offers a vibrant academic and social environment, but the cost of education is a significant factor to consider, with some suggesting community college as a more budget-friendly alternative.
