This hidden gem is Blue Heart Springs in Idaho! Part of the allure is that it's only accessible via the Snake River. I'll be honest, I was so intimidated by the idea of kayaking down the river that I slept terrible the night before 🫠 But it honestly was so much fun! I wanted the process to be as easy as possible since I don't have a lot of river kayaking experience. I did my research and found @b...

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the stunning, crystal-clear blue water of Blue Heart Springs, calling it a must-see natural wonder. The scenic kayak or paddleboard journey to reach it is also a highlight. However, some find the water surprisingly cold, the launch fees a bit high, and the presence of motorboats disruptive.

"The spring is absolutely gorgeous! You have to pay to kayak or paddle board there unfortunately but it was only $10 if you had your own equipment. The river area too get there kinda smells in areas, I don't do smells well. Getting there and back was not hard at all, we even had a 2yr old with us."

"Definitely a must do. We put in at Banbury Hot Springs. $10 a person to park. Might check with Blue Heart Kayak Rentals to see if they allow parking. It is closer to Blue Heart. Water was refreshing, and we spent several hours enjoying the natural wonders. However, there were 3 different boats that entered the oasis and used their motors. They were rude, and the engines caused the area to smell like fuel. A beautiful place though and we will go again!"

Shelley Del Rio

"Nice little area to kayak or SUP out to. There were many people at the springs, even on a weekday morning. Most people had kayaks and SUPs, but there were also some jet skis. The water is cold; this is not a hot spring. The water is still very clear and pretty to look at. It's nice for a fast dip to wake you up, before you hop back on your kayak/SUP and head back out. We rented kayaks from 1000 springs riverhouse and it was a really great experience. The whole thing was really easy, they gave us everything we needed, and instructions on how to get where we were going. Getting to this place is something to do once, but probably only once. It's really too packed to make it a regular thing."

Getting to Blue Heart Springs: The Watery Approach

The journey to Blue Heart Springs is as much a part of the experience as the destination itself. Since it's only accessible by water, you'll need a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard. The most common starting point is Banbury Hot Springs, located on the Snake River. From here, it's a relatively easy 1.5-mile paddle downstream to reach the stunning springs. Many visitors opt to rent their watercraft from Banbury or other local outfitters like Blue Heart Kayak Rentals or 1000 Springs Riverhouse. TikTokInstagram+2

When planning your trip, remember that Banbury Hot Springs requires advance appointments for launching, and they do charge a fee per person. This helps manage the number of visitors and ensures a smoother experience. If you're bringing your own equipment, you'll still need to coordinate your launch. The paddle itself is generally considered easy, making it suitable for most skill levels, even those new to kayaking. InstagramReddit

For those looking for a slightly different perspective or more rental options, other launch points might be available, but Banbury remains the most popular and convenient. The 3-mile round trip typically takes about 1-2 hours, not including the time you'll spend marveling at the springs. TikTokInstagram

The Chilly Reality: Understanding the Water Temperature

One of the most crucial pieces of information for any visitor to Blue Heart Springs is that it is not a hot spring. Despite its inviting name and appearance, the water is remarkably cold. This is a natural spring, and its temperature is consistently cool, regardless of the season. Visitors often describe the water as bracing and refreshing, perfect for a quick dip to invigorate yourself. TikTokReddit+1

While the cold water might deter some from swimming, many find it to be an exhilarating part of the experience. It's advisable to be prepared for this. If you plan on spending a significant amount of time in the water, consider wearing a wetsuit or at least bringing a towel and warm clothing to change into immediately afterward. The visual spectacle of the vibrant blue water against the cool temperature creates a unique sensory experience. TikTokInstagram

Navigating Crowds and Etiquette at Blue Heart Springs

Blue Heart Springs has gained significant popularity, especially through social media, which means it can get quite crowded, particularly on weekends and during peak season. Visitors have noted that even on weekdays, there can be a good number of people with kayaks and paddleboards. Reddit+1 To avoid the largest crowds, aiming for a weekday morning or a springtime visit is often recommended. Instagram

Adding to the experience, some visitors have encountered motorboats in the springs, which can disrupt the tranquility with noise and fuel odors. Reddit While there are no strict rules against them, respecting the natural environment and other visitors is key. Many people come for the peaceful, natural beauty, so being mindful of noise levels and your impact on the water is appreciated. Packing out everything you pack in is essential to preserve this beautiful spot. Reddit
