What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the park for its beautiful scenery, family-friendly atmosphere, and ample opportunities for outdoor recreation, especially swimming at the public beach. Many appreciate the peaceful camping experience and the chance to see wildlife. Some note that the park store is limited and pricey, and insect repellent is essential.
"We just got back from a week at the Lake of the Ozarks, and it was one of those trips we’ll be talking about for a long time. We brought our two kids, and from the minute we got there, it was nonstop fun and quality family time.
The lake life vibe was exactly what we needed—laid-back days, sunny skies, and plenty to explore. Whether we were grilling out, watching the kids swim, or just sitting by the water as the sun went down, it felt like we were in our own little world.
The kids didn’t want to leave (and honestly, neither did we). From spontaneous lake swims to late-night laughs, this trip gave us everything we hoped for and more. It reminded us how important it is to unplug, be present, and make time for each other.
Already counting down the days until we can go back."

"Park was clean. Site was clean. We stayed in loop 1 on the airport side. Sites are fairly spacious. Lots of trees!! Lots of wildlife!! There were deer in the park every evening.
I was afraid the park was going to be super noisy and packed. We stayed in June. It actually wasnt, at all. Marina was nice if you wanted to go out on the water. There was quite a bit of construction in the park going on, which we were aware of. So cant fault the park for that.
The only downside was the park store..its NOT big and really didnt carry any camping essentials. Drinks, ice, and a very small array of misc items. They do put wood outside at night, on the honor system...but they leave very few bundles out. Basically, hit up DG on your way into the park if you need to and make sure you grab wood before the park store closes!
We had a great stay!
I am a life-long camper and this is my first stay at THIS state park."

"Coat up in deet, the ticks are plentiful. camp near the lake if you want to be near lots of people and near the lake where you have water access and near the beach and Marina but if you want Solitude camp near the entrance at the upper camping lot. don't forget your beer because it's $20 for a 12-pack of Natty. and what is awesome about this place is the solid dude the peacefulness and you're only 20 minutes away from the most popular parts of the Lake of the Ozarks."
