"I feel safe coming here to watch baseball games because of the overhead safety net they have covering the area people walk/sit. Very nice cemented place for children to play on their bike/scooter.
Beware of the chiggers on the grass!"

"I really liked this park because it’s one of the only places I feel safe going to during the day as a woman with my dog. However, the last two times I’ve been there, people have allowed their dogs to roam off leash outside of the Bark Park. It seems to be the same people each time. I don’t take my dog to the Bark Park and just walk her around the park because she is a rescue and was attacked by another dog when she was young, so she is very anxious when other dogs approach her. Because of this, I give other people and their dogs ample space and keep my dog on a leash at all times (especially because you are supposed to outside of the Bark Park). But I cannot control other people’s behavior or their dogs.
The last time I was there, about a month ago, an off-leash dog was blocking a narrow pathway and my dog was afraid to pass. The owners were far away and were doing nothing to recall their dog, so I had to wait. I was there again today, and four people had four dogs, none of whom were on a leash (the four people seemed to be together, by the way — and two of them and their dogs looked like the same people from last time). Their dogs were roaming everywhere, far from their owners if they needed to be recalled quickly. I tried to keep my distance, but then the dogs gathered near my car and I had to wait in the 84 degree weather for them to move so I could take my dog safely to the car without her feeling scared. Before that could happen, however, a large dog booked it towards us. The owners tried to call for their dog, but their dog did not listen. I finally snapped and told them they need to have their dogs on leash if they’re not going to be in the Bark Park.
It’s unfortunate that I’ll have to find somewhere new to take my dog, but rules really need to be enforced here."

This has led to some negative experiences for those with anxious or reactive pets, as off-leash dogs can approach unexpectedly and cause distress. While the park itself is well-maintained and generally safe, the enforcement of leash laws in other areas of the park is a point of contention for some.
Despite these occasional issues, the dog park remains a favorite spot for many, offering ample space to run and play. The presence of water features and the generally good temperament of the dogs make it a highly recommended destination for dog owners looking for a dedicated space for their pets to socialize and exercise.
Navigating Pendergast Park: Paths and Comfort
Shade is limited, particularly during the summer months, making morning visits highly recommended to avoid the peak heat. This also tends to be a quieter time to enjoy the park. For those concerned about insects, be aware that chiggers can be present in the grassy areas, so taking precautions or sticking to the paved and mulched paths is advisable.
Despite these considerations, the park is generally well-maintained, with poop usually picked up, making it pleasant for walks. The combination of paved areas for children's play and the natural elements offers a varied experience for all visitors.
Community Events and Park Activities
