What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Village of the Arts for its unique charm, colorful cottages, and the opportunity to interact with local artists. While some find the hours restrictive, the eclectic atmosphere and artistic talent make it a worthwhile destination for a leisurely exploration.
"Enjoying a Friday night stroll through the Village of the Arts prompted a couple of thoughts: 1) What a wonderful, fun, vibrant neighborhood and 2) Why doesn't every town have something like this?
And then: What if you could pluck this neighborhood up and drop it in--_ (fill in the blank with YOUR hometown). Would it survive? Would it thrive? Would you be a vital part of it? What would it take to bring this many creative people to one neighborhood? Thank you Bradenton for making this happen. And shame on the Desantis adminstration for ordering the recent destruction of the sidewalk and street art. Erasing art does not make us more free. It reveals fear of free expression, Constitutionally protected speech, AND local control. Long live VOTA!"

"The Village of the Arts was a nice afternoon drive through all the local artists. Due to COVID-19 many stores were closed but the ones that survived were still open. The amazing artists and their products were worth the drive, especially being able to personally talk with each one. We drove through the area looking for open stores that were there and came across many that were still open and very friendly. They had an enormous amount of various items at reasonable prices. It was a good feeling to support area artists. They were all friendly and more than willing to discuss their products."

"Such an eclectic place! We came on a day when everything was closed because we were in the area, but it was still amazing to see all of the art. I'm sure it would have been even better to go into the shops and talk to the people, as well.
I honestly don't know why this doesn't have more great reviews. It's such a cool gem in a small city. If you are specifically coming for the shops, just make sure you come on the right day at the right time. I think most of them are open Thursday through Saturday from 11 to 4. Covid might also affect these hours.
Either way, it is definitely worth a visit here just to see the houses and the art."

The Unique Live-Work Community
This concept was intentionally fostered by the Artists Guild of Manatee, a non-profit formed in 1999 with the mission to build a community where artists could live and work. This dedication has resulted in an eclectic neighborhood where art is not just displayed but is an integral part of daily life. Visitors often remark on the friendly nature of the residents, many of whom are happy to share the story of the village and their personal artistic journeys.
Navigating the Art Scene
While the village is charming to simply wander through, checking the operating hours is crucial. Most galleries are open Thursday through Saturday, from 11 AM to 4 PM. However, special events like Art Walks are highly recommended. During these events, nearly all venues are open, creating a lively atmosphere with music, refreshments, and a chance to see the full spectrum of talent the village has to offer.
A Touch of History and Architecture
Beyond the colorful exteriors, the village also features public art installations, including murals that adorn sidewalks and walls. While some public art has faced challenges due to state regulations, the spirit of artistic expression remains strong. These artistic touches, combined with the unique architectural style, make the Village of the Arts a distinctive and memorable destination.
