What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the breathtaking beauty of Fairy Lake and the rewarding panoramic views from Sacagawea Peak. The challenging hike and the scenic drive are considered well worth the effort, though the rough road requires careful navigation and a suitable vehicle. While popular, the natural splendor makes it a memorable destination.
"This lake was stunning. The unpaved road does get fairly rough. Definitely made a huge difference with having a truck or 4 wheel drive. We unfortunately saw a few compact vehicles turn around. Once we made it to the top the view was breathtaking and well worth the bumpy ride. The lake blue and clear. There is a trail loop which was fairly easy to navigate. Plenty of spots for fishing, easy water access for paddle boards and the rope swing looked super fun. We were able to catch 5 cutthroat"

"The road getting up there isn't crazy bad, but it's definitely annoyingly bad. You'll have to take it slow on a lot of the road if you enjoy having suspension in your vehicle. On the weekends if you want a parking spot in the morning you'll probably want to be there by at least 7:30AM. The lot seems to lose people by around 9-10am and you can usually get a spot after that. If you want to get away from people this is not the place for you. I don't think there is a single spot you could camp on the road that there isn't someone within a couple hundred yards of you. At least on the weekends. You can pretty much set up camp wherever though so it's not impossible to make your own campsite (just be respectful of the wilderness and the other campers). Most all of the hikes in the area are pretty short, you do gain a decent amount of elevation though. The views are amazing and you might see a little wildlife if you're early enough. I always recommend bear spray in the wilderness, but the amount of people on this trail will most likely scare off any wildlife unless you're early like I said before. Have fun!"

"I drove on the Flathead Pass Road to get to the trailhead and the drive was absolutely gorgeous. Fairy Lake was the most beautiful part of my off-roading trip. The lake had a ton of tadpoles and I had a lot of fun helping my siblings catch them. The path to the lake is quite easy and well-managed. I highly recommend Fairy Lake and the Flathead Pass Road as excellent and one of my favorite outdoor places to go/drive on."
