The unique amphibious vehicle and the splashdown into the Charles River are consistent highlights, offering a fun and memorable experience for all ages. While some find the seating a bit tight and the land portion extensive, the overall consensus is that it's a worthwhile and enjoyable way to see the city.
"It was a nice 80 minute tour of Boston. What really sold it was our amazing narrator/comedian extraordinaire, Scott. He had a way of bringing to life the city, sharing stories and anecdotes about everything and anything. We truly had a blast (kids and grown ups alike).
I just wish the boat spent either more time in the water or went into the water twice. Of an 80 minute tour, I think we were on land for just about an hour of it. On the cool side, they let anyone (who wants to) drive the boat when in the water. It’s also almost guaranteed to leave the ride with a Boston accent!!"

"We got to the Museum of Science earlier than expected and the company was very nice, even changed our tour time to accommodate to an earlier duck versus having to wait around for over an hour. My family enjoyed the duck tour. Didn't have to drive in traffic while trying to look at the sites was great. Narrator was very informative and gave a lot of history of the sites we were seeing. Driver was very safe. The best part was at the end of the tour, it turned into a vessel on the Charles River."

The Amphibious Adventure: What to Expect
The highlight for many is the transition from road to water. The 'Duck' vehicle, a refurbished World War II DUKW, makes a dramatic splashdown into the Charles River. Once on the water, you'll gain a different perspective of the city, with stunning views of the Boston skyline and the Cambridge side. Some tours even offer passengers the chance to briefly drive the Duck, adding an extra layer of excitement. The entire tour typically lasts about 80 minutes, providing a memorable and entertaining way to explore Boston.
Pro-tip: While the tour is designed for fun, some travelers note that the historical information shared can be similar to what you'd hear on a walking tour. However, the unique mode of transport and the guides' personalities elevate the experience, making it a worthwhile adventure for many. The seating can be a bit snug, so keep that in mind if you're traveling with a larger group.
Navigating Boston: Getting to Your Duck Tour
For those opting to drive, the Museum of Science has its own parking garage. However, be aware that parking in Boston can be expensive, and traffic can be challenging, especially during peak hours. Many visitors find that using ride-sharing services like Uber or Lyft, or even taxis, can be a more stress-free and sometimes more economical way to reach the departure point, allowing you to focus on the upcoming tour rather than navigating city streets and parking.
Consider your travel time carefully, especially if you're visiting on a weekend or during a special event. Arriving a bit early is always a good idea to allow for unexpected delays and to ensure you have time to locate the departure area and use facilities before your tour begins.
