Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Boca Raton Innovation Campus for its significant historical role in technology, particularly as the birthplace of the IBM PC, and its striking Brutalist architecture. The campus is also appreciated for its evolving role as a hub for innovation, art exhibitions, and community events, offering a unique blend of past and present.

"The Boca Raton Innovation Campus is famous for being the birthplace of the first personal computer which was invented and developed here. The IBM PC Model 5150 was developed on campus in 1981. The first PC keyboard was also invented here by IBM engineer David Bradley although he credit its popularity to Bill Gates who decided to license his operating system to IBM in what is now the 5000 building.

The campus was built as IBM's North American Research and Development facility in the late 1960's. It was designed by Marcel Breuer who is known for his conic Brutalist architecture with minimalist and functional designs. The innovative infrastructure was designed to withstand a category 5 hurricane.

CP Group acquired the property in 2018 and IBM departed in the early 2000's. It has now been transformed into a vibrant hub for technology and life sciences with amenities like restaurants, art galleries, and event spaces. Future plans include corporate offices, retail, hospitality, and residential spaces.

There are miles of walk and bike paths around campus that are open to the public. My favorite place to walk is around the lake which attracts birds and ducks. 5.5 laps around equals one mile. The lake is 20 feet deep in the center and holds 10 million gallons of water.

While on campus you can also check out the Art on BRiC Walls Art Exhibits. Take a self guided tour of art exhibits lining the common area corridors. Collaborations with Palm Beach County museums, schools, colleges, and art organizations line the walls. Also on campus you will find Marcel Brewer's Cafe by Carmela Coffee, a conference center, a 7,000-square-foot fitness center with locker rooms, showers, and group fitness classes, an on-site primary care office, bike storage, Bits Autonomous grab-and-go, and more.

BRiC is well worth checking out for the history, architecture, and art while exercise enthusiast can use the campus to connect to other nature trails in the area. The campus is also the host of the Coco Love Fest, a family friendly event from the Coco Market that offers retail shopping, activities, and workshops. It looks like a lot of great things are happening at BRiC. I can't wait to see what pops up next."

Ariel W.

"I’ve been going there for the Coco Market. It’s a great venue. I’m happy they’re taking advantage of the space. I stopped by to help out my friend’s booth for Elevate Financial & Elevate Movement."

Edgar Caceres

"Pretty but such a waste of land. So much space and you waste all of it. Also, the car infrastructure is rather poor. So much for innovation. Only redeeming quality is the lake I guess."
