What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Redcliffe Plantation for its deeply informative and unflinching historical tours, particularly regarding the realities of slavery. The knowledgeable guides and the well-preserved mansion and grounds are frequently highlighted as major positives. Some visitors note the intense heat inside the house during warmer months, advising preparation for this.
"Tour of the plantation home and grounds was thorough and the park guide was super knowledgeable. The magnolia trail is currently closed due to lingering hurricane damage but the visit was well worth the drive!"
Amy Lloyd
"We went in for a guided tour, the place is closed otherwise, and you cannot wonder around right now. The storm Helene took out a lot of trees and a building. Very interesting place indeed. The tour guide was amazing, very knowledgeable and totally worth the fees. I would absolutely come back and will do so when the park reopens."
Aneta Rusek
"I'm not usually a plantation type of person, considering the huge amounts of violence and trauma against enslaved Black folks, but the reviews on this one looked like the tours did not shy away from this history so we gave it a stop, and we were not disappointed!
Brenden gave us a great tour. He was super knowledgeable. The interpretative history of the place did not paint the historical operator of the plantation as anything other than an enslaver and rapist (not only against the humans he owned, but his 4 nieces also!).
It is humbling to see the history and hear about the true horrors of the lives of enslaved people. I was also happy to hear that they have "descendants days" honoring the living descendants of the men and women who paid with their sweat and blood to build this horrible man's wealth... next stop, REPARATIONS!"
