Welcome to Beatty, Nevada! 🫏🫏🫏 The old mining town of Beatty is considered "the gateway to Death Valley National Park" and is home to over 800 wild burros (donkeys)!! 🤯 ✨ Fun fact: many of these wild burros were recently removed from Death Valley and are no longer allowed in national Park boundaries. Once they were removed, the burros quickly started calling Beatty home thanks to the close proxi...

I came to visit Rhyolite, a ghost town outside Beatty, Nevada. I found 17 wild burros watching me from the hills surrounding the open air museum near there. I don’t know if these burros are still wild and free. There was a round up recently in the Beatty area.

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the unique experience of encountering wild burros near Beatty, often describing them as a delightful surprise on road trips. The local eatery, Happy Burro Chili & Beer, receives consistent praise for its delicious chili and exceptionally friendly, small-town atmosphere, making it a highly recommended stop.

"Wow! Great place!!! What a great treat while on a long trip from Tahoe to vegas. The place itself appears to be very antique but well kept and the service is genuine and very friendly. Some of that small town charm. We came in with two pups and the bartender immediately offered a water bowl 🥣 🐶 and the older gentlemen brought us dog treats. Superb.
The chili itself was actually delicious 😋 and while the price is pretty steep for what it is, all things considered (location; accessibility to things, costs of everything nowadays) I’m okay paying it for the experience and quality of what is normally very basic food.
The ambiance is very inviting and there is both indoor and outdoor seating."

"Happy Burro Chili & Beer is exactly what the name promises. Chili that warms your soul and beer that makes you forget you’re in the middle of the desert. Their chili is so good it should come with a warning label, because one bowl turns into three before you know it. The place has that small-town charm where you half expect a cowboy (or an actual burro) to join you at the bar. If happiness had a flavor, it would taste like this chili and wash down with this beer."

"Wonderful place with a warm welcome
We had a great experience here, thanks especially to the incredibly friendly lady who served us. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, and the setting itself was charming and well-kept.

A truly enjoyable stop, we can only recommend it!"
