"We enjoyed it very much. We used to QR codes to hear all the stories and it was a quiet day so we were able to really take it all in and enjoy it as the Leopolds would want. We were even able to take off our shoes and play in the river. We saw tracks from several critters, even otter slides! Eagles, monarch butterflies, turkey vultures watching us from above."

"Visited June 12, 2025. As a Leopold fan for decades this was a big deal for me. I first read Sand County Almanac about 30 years ago and it struck a chord within me. The main site has a large number of great displays and we especially enjoyed wandering around the property by “the shack”. Our only disappointment was that the shack was locked up and we could not even look in a window to get some idea of what it looked like inside. Make sure to take the short walk down to the Wisconsin River and enjoy the natural beauty of this location."

"I visited this place this past summer, having recently read a few of Aldo Leopold’s works including A Sand County Almanac. Despite there being an interstate highway not much more than a mile away, the trees and plants were really absorbing the sound, and it was extremely quiet and peaceful here. Aldo Leopold’s cabin wasn’t open when I visited, but it was still cool to view it from the outside. There were a few trails behind the cabin that lead to the Wisconsin River. The rivers banks consisted almost completely of sand, which is very bizarre for Wisconsin, but that’s why Aldo Leopold named this area Sand County."
