What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Avalanche Lake Trail for its stunning scenery, featuring majestic mountains and numerous waterfalls. The hike is considered moderately challenging and well-maintained, making it accessible for many. However, the extreme popularity means parking and trail congestion are significant drawbacks, especially during peak hours.
"Excellent trail in Glacier Park. The trail follows a creek for about a mile. Nice views of rapids. There are pit toilets at the beginning of the trail and about 1.5 miles into the trail. The trail ultimately takes you to Avalanche Lake. The lake is not too big but the views of the mountains and glaciers around the lake are amazing. There are several waterfalls visible coming down the mountain into the lake. The day we hiked there was a bear feeding by the lake. Also saw some deer. The trail is about 5 miles round trip and gains about 700 feet of elevation. Not to difficult. Trail is well maintained and marked. Many families using the trail the day I hiked."

"I hiked this in about August, 2015, summer high and crowded season.
Camped at Avalanche CG; on the trail about 600am (I used to be an ice glacier climber; yeah, I'm weird), very early morning. The sunrise, the trail, the solitude were stunning.
Got to the lake about 700am. Gorgeous cirque! There was a beach about the size of three school busses, otherwise rocks and cliffs. Leaned against the perfect log, enjoyed two hours of coffee, pastries and utter peacefulness.
Started back at 900am. Very quickly met the first of twenty-eight (28!) groups of people hiking in. Bet that beach got crowded!
Great trail, dirt sidewalk, easy walk.
Get on trail REALLY early, avoid the crowds, enjoy!"
