What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Lesko Park is cherished for its beautiful Ohio River views and peaceful walking trails, offering a serene escape. While many appreciate the shaded picnic spots and commemorative tributes, some visitors note that the park's facilities, particularly the playground and restrooms, could benefit from better upkeep. Recent flood events have also impacted the area, highlighting the community's resilience and the park's potential.
"Loved the scenery and the walking trail but the park was pretty run down. Bathrooms were locked in the middle of the day and they had a port-a-potty to use but it was disgusting. We spent about an hour here picking up trash on and around the playground trying to leave it better than we found it, but could definitely use a community work day for clean up and repair. There were trash can lids but no trash can by the playground. Overall good for a walk but not the best if you’re looking for a playground. This cute little shaded bench with a good view was our favorite part. This place has so much potential, I hope the town does something with it!"

The Ohio River Experience
Adding a unique touch to the riverfront experience are the commemorative tributes adorning the lamp posts. These personal messages and dedications create a poignant atmosphere, weaving local history and individual stories into the park's landscape. Visitors often take time to read these tributes, adding a layer of emotional depth to their visit. This element transforms a simple walk into an opportunity to connect with the community's past and present.
It's important to note that the Ohio River is prone to significant flooding. Aurora has experienced severe floods in the past, which can temporarily impact park conditions and accessibility. While the park is a beloved spot for residents, visitors should be aware of potential post-flood cleanup efforts or temporary closures.
Park Upkeep and Community Spirit
Despite these challenges, there's a strong sense of community pride and a willingness to improve the park. One review specifically mentions that the park is a favorite spot for Aurora residents and that recent flood cleanup efforts required significant manpower. This suggests that while the park may face maintenance hurdles, the local community values it highly and actively participates in its care. The potential for community work days to address cleanup and repairs is a positive aspect.
For visitors, this means managing expectations regarding amenities. While the natural beauty and river walk are consistently praised, it's advisable to come prepared with your own supplies, such as hand sanitizer and trash bags, and to appreciate the park's potential while acknowledging its current state.
