What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests appreciate the Historic Claridge Hotel's fantastic location near the boardwalk and beach, along with its unique vintage charm and affordable prices. However, many reviews highlight significant issues with long wait times for check-in and elevators, as well as occasional concerns about cleanliness and elevator reliability.
"Extremely close to the boardwalk. A lot of history at the hotel and in the general area. We got the whirlpool king room and had some minor issues but ultimately had a great trip and would recommend. They definitely could use some more signs so you don’t get lost but other than that it was a great experience! Plan on staying again. Prices were not bad either!"

"Great hotel location in Atlantic City!
The location was right near the beach which was nice. Although, you do have to pay for parking.
Only a few things I would critique…
Check-in is INSANELY long no matter what time of day you are checking in. I’m not sure what takes so long, as it is a simple check-in process. We waited in line for nearly an hour before getting to our room, and any time we walked in the lobby the line was just as long.
Second, the elevators are HORRIBLE. They have several elevators and yet you still have to wait almost 20 minutes to get in one. I ended up having to walk down flights of stairs just to check-out in time because the elevators would not go down. Also be careful because these are very old and will dip on you while riding.
Other than that, the price was decent and the room was wonderful! No complaints about the rest of the stay!"

"We just came back from staying 2 nights in this hotel. It was absolute hell from the second I checked in. We had the least friendly staff member- who barely said a word to us as we signed a bunch of different screens, and signed, without being told what was happening (we booked 2 rooms). Handed us our keys without saying a word about the pool being closed down and unusable; to the elevator leading to the rooftop restaurant undergoing maintenance from the upper floors..then sending us up at 9:30 with a group of 3 children so that we could be yelled at the second we stepped off the elevator into the restaurant! I went back to the front desk to talk with the employee and she was disgustingly rude to me, argued with me; and just plain old did not care what so ever. We felt completely unwelcome, frustrated, and let down. Then to top it off, our rooms were disgusting. The previous guest left his ID in my bed.. along with pubic hair!! They obviously didn’t clean my bed. I slept 2 days on top of all of the covers because I was so disgusted. We felt completely defeated. The hallways were disgusting, the guests on our floor were loud and obnoxious at all hours off the night. Don’t even get me started on the parking attendants being completely unhelpful and rude when we were trying to make sure my handicapped, veteran father could get his luggage out before parking. Not one single person in that building cared we were guests there. We didn’t get welcomed once. Departure was no different, the employee took a phone call while checking us out, covered the mouth of the phone and told us we were all set… we had to request a receipt and for him to explain to us the holds on the room and process of it being refunded. Never once did anyone take the time to talk to us about anything. I would never ever stay here again, and I will make sure to warn everyone all my friends and family to stay away when they visit Atlantic City."

Navigating the Historic Claridge: Charm Meets Practicality
However, the hotel's historic nature also means some practical considerations. Reviews frequently mention long wait times for check-in and for the elevators, which can be a source of frustration for some visitors. The elevators themselves are noted as being quite old, and at times, only a few may be operational, leading to further delays. Some guests have even opted to walk down flights of stairs to avoid the wait. Some rooms offer views of the ocean and beach, though window cleanliness can sometimes be a factor. The hotel's historic nature means that room features might differ from modern standards, and some guests have noted a lack of bathroom ventilation.
Overall, room experiences can vary. While the hotel's charm and location are often praised, potential guests should be aware that cleanliness standards can be inconsistent, and some rooms may reflect the age of the building.
