We made it!! Finally off the lake and fishing my favorite place to be in the whole world. The Atchafalaya River Basin! Her story and how she affects our waterways alone are pretty amazing. This I-10 bridge over the Atchafalaya swamp basin is 18.2 miles long running between Baton Rouge and Lafayette, Louisiana. Coming in as the 3rd longest bridge in the United States, it isn’t for the faint of heart as you can peer over the edge and spot the occasional gator on a warm enough day. . . . . #atchafalyabasin #18milebridge #18milebridgeoveraswamp🐊 #atchafalayabasinbridge #batonrouge #lafa...

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the Atchafalaya Basin's vast, natural beauty and the unique experience of its swamp tours, highlighting the chance to see alligators and ancient cypress trees. Some find the airboat tours a bit loud, and mosquito repellent is a must for comfort in the humid environment. Overall, it's considered a must-visit for its ecological significance and wild charm. InstagramReddit

"You must visit this place. Not spoken of, in Baton Rouge. But the slow boats and enthusiastic boat captains are a great asset. Although we did not see full sized allegator, we saw countless babies, some great herons, a king fisher, couple of Anhinga and the oldest living object in the basin, the cypress tree which is about 525 years old. If you have time, couple it with the Tabasco factory visit which is about 30 minutes from this place.

Remember to carry mosquito spray. You are in a hot steamy swamp."

Paresh Motiwala

"Gorgeous! Vast! Natural beauty of the Gulf
Did you know? This is the largest wetland in America? This is a critical environmental and ecological part of our country."

Chris Powers

"I visited here as part of my journey across America. It was one of the first nature spots we visited and it was so peaceful. We walked a small trail which took us along a small lake. It was wonderful being able to get away from everything and just relax in the world around us. Apparently its actually the largest swampland in the country. Even bigger than the Everglades. Anyone passing through Louisiana should take the time to visit."
