The well-maintained trails are appreciated, though some note the potential for mud and downed trees. Crowds can be an issue, especially for those hoping for a secluded swim.
"Well groomed hiking trails and a solid hike. In the tiny parking lot there are heads of 2 trails. It wasn't clearly marked which trail was to the falls. After hiking 2.5 miles we figured we took the wrong one and doubled back. Thankfully the water was cold as we were over heated by then. Enough people it was hard to get in to any water deep enough to really submerge so we went up higher and sat in the stream. Hoping to go back soon in the middle of the week and be able to get fully in to the water."

"The waterfalls were prettier in person! Lots of wildlife and little orange newts heading out on the Two Bridges path. Somehow it seemed up hill both ways, but totally doable. Muddy in spots and lots of downed trees, but even that was beautiful. A beautiful way to spend a New England morning❤️"

Hiking the Trails
It's important to note that trail navigation can sometimes be tricky. The small parking lot features multiple trailheads, and it's not always immediately obvious which path leads to the main attraction, the falls. Visitors who have experienced this recommend having a map or using a GPS device to ensure you're on the right track. Being prepared for a potential backtrack is also a good idea.
When planning your hike, consider the time of year and recent weather. Spring and fall can bring vibrant colors, while summer offers the perfect opportunity for a refreshing dip in the falls. Always wear appropriate footwear, such as waterproof hiking boots, to handle potentially wet and uneven terrain.
The Allure of Chapel Brook Falls
However, the popularity of these swimming spots means they can get quite crowded, especially during peak times. If you're looking for a more serene experience or a deeper spot to submerge, some visitors suggest venturing further upstream from the main pool. The water, while refreshing, is often described as cold, so be prepared for a bracing dip!
Beyond the immediate falls, the surrounding environment is rich with natural beauty. The lush New England landscape provides a stunning backdrop for the falls, making it a beautiful place to spend a morning or afternoon. Remember to pack out everything you pack in to help preserve this natural wonder for others.
