What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Windy Run Park as a delightful hidden gem for a quick hike, highlighting its beautiful waterfall and connection to the Potomac Heritage Trail. While some find the rocky terrain and stream crossings challenging, most enjoy the natural adventure and scenic beauty. Occasional litter and noise from the nearby parkway are minor drawbacks.
"Great little hike to get to the potomac heritage trail. Several places to cross the stream and you'll do some real all hands bouldering to get to the heritage trail. The trail could use a bit of maintenance as there was a downed tree near the PHT entrance but otherwise a lovely hike. I took my kids aged 8, 11, and 13 and our dog. I wouldn't recommend trying to get to the PHT with kids much younger than that."

"One of the best little hidden gems for a hike in the Arlington area. The trail entrance is at the end of a cul de sac so most days there’s plenty of parking.
The trail is really nicely developed for being so close to DC. There’s a stream that runs through the wooded area with footbridges and railings for more difficult spots. The trail takes you under the George Washington Parkway and then to a beautiful ~35 ft. Waterfall that leads down to the banks of the Potomac.
At the bottom you can split off in either direction to walk along the river. To the right you’ll have great views of Georgetown and the Key Bridge.
Awesome place for a quick afternoon hike without having to go to Great Falls or Shenandoah."

"My wife and I enjoyed this trail. There is a little challenging spots when climbing and navigating through the rocks in the creeks. Overall we enjoyed it. Only downside is that there were a few places where trash was thrown."
