What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
While the Anderson Sports and Entertainment Center offers diverse sporting facilities and hosts enjoyable annual events like the fair and hot air balloon fest, large summer concerts can be marred by extreme heat, inadequate shade, and high concession prices. Staff are generally friendly and helpful, but logistical issues like parking and long lines for water detract from the experience for many.
"Bought two day tickets for July 25th, 2025 Rock the Country event. Arrived about 3 PM on Friday. 30,000 people already there. Temperature on field was 98 degrees. Only shade was a small misting tent that maybe held 100 people standing. People experiencing heat exhaustion. First Aid tent inadequate. Two free water bottle filling stations . Each line constantly 50 people long. Totally inadequate. Rest rooms were all the way at one end of this huge field. I'm not even gonna mention the exorbitant prices for all the concessions. Left at 11 PM, totally exhausted from the experience, but lucky to be alive! Announced attendance 40,000 people. So bad, I didn't even come back for the next day's performances. Forfeited $320 in motel, ticket and parking expenses. Sadly, this was the same experience last year according to a previous review. Didn't attend last year, but if this was an improvement, I'm glad I didn't."

"The staff are friendly, otherwise a 1 star review. It otherwise was awful.
Problems include: 1: We paid for parking, but it was so hard to get in that we just paid $25 to park at the Elk's club.
2: No shade and one small tented area to get a break from the sun. We witnessed several heat strokes.
3. The vendors were way expensive, even compared to other venues, and they were all different, so if you got a bottomless drink at one, others would not honor the free refill and required you buy their own expensive bottomless drink. They would not even let you just buy a refill. My son stood in a "free refill" line for ten minutes, only to find this all out.
4. Other venues have large screens throughout so you could see the performers no matter where you were. This place had two big screens by the stage and nowhere else. With the flat topography, it was hard to see the performance.
Other than that, the staff were all friendly and helpful and the problems are not their fault."

"I have been here for the hot air ballon fest. Unfortunately, they could not go up in the air due to the wind (safety reasons) which is understandable. Regardless, my family still enjoyed the event."

The center is generally well-signposted, but using GPS navigation is always a good idea. Event-specific signage is usually in place on event days.
🎫 🎫 Tickets & Entry
Tickets are typically available through the official venue website, authorized third-party ticket vendors, and sometimes at the box office on the day of the event, though popular events often sell out in advance.

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider attending events during cooler months or opting for activities like the hot air balloon fest, which, while weather-dependent, can be a more relaxed experience for families. Ensure you have a plan for managing sun exposure and keeping everyone comfortable throughout the day.
💰 Budget Travelers
Look for events that offer free water refill stations and utilize them frequently. Attending events during the shoulder seasons (spring and fall) might also offer more affordable ticket prices or fewer associated costs compared to peak summer festivals.

In-depth insights and expert knowledge
Navigating Summer Events: Heat and Hydration
To combat the heat, it's crucial to arrive prepared. Bringing your own reusable water bottles is essential, and fans or personal misting devices can provide some relief. Planning to attend during cooler parts of the day, if possible, or visiting during the shoulder seasons (fall and spring) can significantly improve the experience. For those attending summer events, pacing yourself, taking frequent breaks in any available shade, and prioritizing hydration are key to a safe and enjoyable visit.
Event Logistics: Parking, Concessions, and Viewing
Concessions are another area of concern, with prices described as exorbitant. A particular point of frustration for some visitors is the inconsistent policy on 'bottomless' drinks. If you purchase a bottomless cup from one vendor, it may not be honored by another, leading to unexpected additional costs. Furthermore, the venue's viewing experience can be limited, with large screens primarily located near the stage, making it difficult for those further away to see the performers clearly.
For a smoother experience, it's recommended to research parking options in advance, set a budget for food and drinks, and understand the venue's policies on outside items. If possible, consider the layout of the venue and the placement of screens when choosing your viewing spot.
Sports and Community Activities
The venue also hosts events like the annual fair, which provides a fun experience with rides and shows, and has been a venue for friendly football matches between youth teams. These activities highlight the center's role in fostering community engagement and providing recreational outlets for people of all ages.
