Day 14: 27 miles from Anchorage to Bird Creek Campground. Due to the Riley wildfire, the trains weren’t allowing any new reservations in case they were needed for evacuations. With rain and temps in the 40s forecasted for Hatcher pass and heavy traffic along a highway shoulder as the alternative route, a kind soul offered us a lift to Anchorage which we gratefully accepted. Once we got into the ...

Reviews Summary

Bird Creek Campground is praised for its fantastic location, offering direct access to the scenic Bird to Gird Trail and proximity to hiking opportunities like Bird Creek Falls. Visitors appreciate the convenience for RVs and its role as a safe transit point. However, some find it more of a parking lot than a traditional campground, with potential for highway noise and wind exposure on certain sites.

"I was at the overflow past Bird Creek, but it was private and quiet which i appreciate. The pay to parking nonsense requires a card and does not do cash, so be mindful of that. Otherwise, it's close to hiking and fishing spots and quiet."

Windy Lightning

"I would not really call this a campground. I would consider a place to park your camper and transit to your next destination. it is quiet and it's safe but it is just a parking lot in front of a hotel. There is however a campground across the street called Bird Creek which is a state run facility. The bird Creek hotel is a nice 1950s motel and we had a wonderful stay. I would highly recommend it."

joseph Rapoza

"Great location just outside of Anchorage. Has RV or tent camping sites that have a picnic table and fire ring. Ties into the bike trail running from Indian River to Girdwood. Bring water as the waterpump water is not good to drink."
