While it lacks modern amenities like plush seating, its affordable prices, classic intermission, and well-preserved historic atmosphere make it a beloved community treasure. "Beautiful art deco theater showing new releases. 3-D movie was $7 on Sunday evening. Not too busy —late June. Concessions were $2.50 to $6 each. Great selection of candy, but not much else. Original seating, balcony optional (stairs)."

"You don't go for the exquisite quality, you go for the charm...leave the rest for those insanely expensive theaters in the big cities.
Washoe historic theater is one of the last beautiful, artistic buildings (certainly in Montana). As other folks have said, it's ornately art deco, and I left inspired by the murals in the hallway, ornamentation around the sceeen/stage, strait down to the hardware in the bathrooms, when modern buildings are soulless and drab.
In a nostalgically simple way, they show movies here every night (just one or two showings and only one movie for a couple week stretch as there isn't multiple screens), sell popcorn & candy, and all at old-school prices. Movie entry price was $6.00 in early February 2025 when I visited, and snacks ran me less than $10.00. A bargain, to say the least.
Sure, you won't have reclining seats with cup holders. Yes, folks talked all the way through. And I concede, it was cold in there - so bring warm layers or even a throw blanket! However, with the right attitude, this all culminated in a charming, throw-back experience.
Last cool features I just HAVE to highlight? They held an Intermission, so we all got a re-snack/bathroom break!! This enhanced the experience versus the main gripe I leave with every time I go to the big box movie theaters.
There are glowing but discreet clocks on both sides of the room. I could lose track of time if I wanted, or simply glance over if I was curious.
Finally, the young staff were incredibly endearing, friendly, and respectful.
Let's hope this place never closes or loses its heart."
