While some note occasional noise from a nearby gun range, the charm of the Kestrel Pond and the accessibility of the paths are consistently highlighted as major positives.
"Some well marked nature trails and a super cute pond trail where we saw lots of birds. There was also a land acknowledgment. The parking was simple and accessible. The area is small and good for a short hike or a stroll through nature. Easy to get to and close to Atkins Farm for ice cream afterwards."

"As an aging hiker with minor knee problems, it's a joy to find a local hike not too far from my house that's easy on the knees! What a wonderful little trail this is! Follow the yellow blazes, avoid the power line access trails and come back via the Kestrel Pond Loop trail (not really a loop. It only goes part way around the pond, but it's still very nice).
I wasn't aware of the Kestrel Land office before. It reminds me of the Audubon building in Lincoln! Low to the ground, blending in with the trees and nature. I didn't go in. It feels like you need an invitation. Many signs warning you against doing anything you shouldn't.
The whole thing was about a mile and a half and the only negative thing about it was the Glock going off about 1/2 a mile from the path every 30 seconds. Boy, those things are loud! I mean, who needs to practice firing their Glock at 10:30 in the morning? Come on!"

"Great trail. Not uncommon during certain times of the year to see a Blue Heron near the lake or a turtle sunning along the path. Wild Columbine blooms in some places along the trail.
I should note there is a gun range nearby that can sometimes be heard while walking around the trails."
