What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Adirondack Experience for its comprehensive and engaging portrayal of the region's history and culture. The blend of indoor galleries, outdoor exhibits, and scenic trails offers a rich learning and exploration opportunity for all ages. While some may find it more geared towards families, the depth of information and unique artifacts are appreciated by all.
"If you are looking for a museum that tells the story of the Adirondacks like no other, the Adirondack Experience is for you. The museum is located on Blue Mountain Lake and offers several galleries about life in the Adirondacks as well as hiking trails and a cafe with a spectacular view of the lake. There are more than 20 buildings at the museum and there is so much to see.
It is hard to say which of the galleries at the museum is the best. It’s all really based on what you like about the Adirondacks. The “Boats and Boating” gallery displays a nice collection of Adirondack boats including canoes and guide boats. The "Artists & Inspiration in the Wild” gallery showcases a great collection of Adirondack themed paintings. The “Work in the Woods” displays the dangerous history of logging. Near this gallery is a historic Adirondack fire tower which you can go up to the cap in. The “Life in the Adirondacks" gallery has a great collection of stagecoaches and train cars that exemplified how to travel in style long ago. All of the main galleries show you something about the Adirondacks that you just can’t see anywhere else.
The museum offers a nice hiking trail to nearby Minnow Pond. The hike is about a mile long and has an easy gentle gradient. At the end there is a nice boathouse, where there are a small series of antique classic Adirondack boats.
The current special exhibition is about the history of rustic furniture from the Adirondacks and around the world. This is easily some of the most well crafted furniture anyone can see anywhere. Some of the best pieces of furniture included hand crafted cabinets, chairs, benches, bed frames, and dressers.
The Lake View Cafe & Alcove has great views of Blue Mountain Lake that you can enjoy from the deck. The food here is very good. The gift shop is well stocked and has plenty of books and Adirondack themed merchandise. For tickets to the museum you can save money if you buy them online ahead of time. Tickets are also available at the door. It is easy to spend several hours here based on interest level. The museum offers a chance to learn about and enjoy everything that is in the Adirondacks!"

"Visited the day of their Fall Festival, October 5, 2025. Had over 20 buildings you could go into and learn about the history of the Adirondacks. They had areas for kids to do crafts, paint pumpkins, bands, people on stilts, catch and release fishing, wagon rides and more. Trails for walking to see the views, a gift shop and café as well. I would say it's more for families but adults seem to enjoy it too. Check them out if you're ever in that area🍂🍁"
