Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Yorkshire Museum's collections, particularly the Viking and Roman artifacts, to be fascinating and insightful. While some describe the museum as dated and a bit chaotic, the engaging exhibits and the beautiful Museum Gardens are frequently praised. Free entry for those on Universal Credit is a significant plus for many.

"Our visit to the museum was mainly to see the Viking exhibition. There were a number of very interesting items and it only takes one thing that just triggers your curiosity. For me it was some of the intriguing hordes of coins buried to hide them from Viking the invaders. I also found a battle helmet with engravings a fascinating item to ponder. My only gripe is some places needed better signage.
The Star Carr exhibit was also nicely thought out and a real insight into life in early Britain."

Alison Ford

"The museum is dated, small and a bit chaotic which is why we felt it was overpriced for what you get. But the vikings exhibition was great, the gardens are lovely and the ruins are also very impressive. You can enjoy a nice picnic after your visit away from the noice of the bussy streets."

Rocio Carvajal

"Great collection of Roman artifacts found in and around York. Superb mosaic, which visitors can walk on (shoes off!). Other highlights include Anglo-Saxon helmet in basement along with other viking and medieval treasures. Don't miss remains of Middlesbrough meteorite on 1st floor plus the original and very first geological map of the UK created by William 'Strata' Smith."
