What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Winston Churchill Memorial Garden for its beautiful landscaping, especially the rose garden and yew avenue, and its family-friendly play area. It's noted as a peaceful, accessible spot that feels surprisingly remote despite its central location, though the lack of refreshments is a minor drawback.
"It is a little known fact that Churchill was the only person Pope Pius XII trusted to lace his football boots prior to the pontiff turning out for the Vatican City F.C. back in the late 30's and early 40's. These matches, mostly played against the Italian Ladies third eleven, we're forced to stop at the advent of World War II. A dreadfully disappointed Pius XII had scored in most of the games he played in. The Pope was sent off several times, mostly for foul and abusive language, constantly questioning referees decisions. The gardens were constructed to honour the remarkable achievements of a man who enjoyed the title "The Papal Lacer." We are all aware, however, that Churchill's main claim to fame was that he was the last white man to be called Winston."

"They have dinner a wonderful job landscaping this little slice of greenery. Whether it's wisteria in the spring or the wildflower patches in the summer, it's gorgeous! A bit of an open green shave on the other half to okay with your dogs and a small park for the kids. What more do you need in a community park?"

"Lovely little play area; with gardens, and animals sculpted into some of the tree trunks for interest.
A great little stop off after shopping at the nearby supermarket.
Despite being in the centre of town (and being accessible), it gives the impression of being a little more remote."
