Reviews Summary

St Helens Cemetery is widely praised for its peaceful atmosphere and well-maintained grounds, making it a beautiful place for remembrance and reflection. Visitors highlight the exceptional helpfulness of the staff, particularly in assisting with family history research and locating specific graves. While generally serene, some reviews mention occasional issues with off-leash dogs disturbing the quiet.

"I would like to express my thanks to the staff that helped me today. 24th June, 2025.

I have been researching my family history and came to the cemetery today to look for a family grave that was over a hundred years old.

I went into the office and was greeted by Hazel. She couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly. She gave me a map of the cemetery and told me the precise location of the grave. She also gave me a print out of the grave owner (my great grandmother) and the names of other people interred. This in itself has widened my interest with my research, making me more determined to find out as much as I can about my relatives.

It took me a long time to find the whereabouts of the grave. I knew it had sunken over the years, and I was about to leave with the knowledge I had gained, yet not seen the exact plot of the grave.

By chance, I met Billy, one of the ground keepers. I told him that I was looking for a particular grave and he said he would help me to find it. I walked back to the section and then Billy arrived with two of his colleagues, Darren and Brian. Not only did they find the grave, but brought the headstone out of the sunken ground, and I was able to read the inscription.

I cannot begin to tell you how this made me feel. This act of kindness by your groundkeepers has been one of the nicest things to happen to me and I can’t thank them enough. I was content to just be in the place were my relatives are laid to rest, and your staff went above and beyond to help me in my quest.

Please pass on my warmest gratitude and to keep up the good work. You employ some amazing staff."

"Peaceful and quiet first thing in a morning, signs are up to keep your dog on a lead but some people seem unable to read. Well maintained by the council and plenty of bins dotted around."

"Clean & tidy with very well maintained grounds through out. My mothers service went well there. I often take a drive up and walk the grounds reflecting on my mothers passing. My only gripe is there is to many people using the grounds to walk dogs that are peeing over graves! Not only does this disturb actual visitors but it's hard to find a quite place there to grieve without being disturbed by dogs and there owners."
