What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning coastal scenery and the iconic Blackhead Lighthouse. The walk is described as beautiful, with options for both gentle strolls along the promenade and more challenging climbs to the lighthouse summit. The presence of a coffee van and picnic spots adds to the enjoyable experience, though some note the lighthouse interior isn't accessible.
"Beautiful place to walk - especially if the weather is kind. There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the view. The best part is that it is entirely flat if you just walk to the head and back. Or for those with more energy and mobility you can climb the steps to the lighthouse and then walk back down another path making it a circular route of about 2 miles.
And there is a coffee van on the front with picnic benches to sit and enjoy the whole experience."
Andrew Marshall
"This is a lovely place to walk to from the beach side car park. About 4km in total with steps and slopes up and down. Lovely caves to see on way. The lighthouse is not available to see around but makes a great viewpoint."
Andrea Susan Campbell
"Beautiful coastal walk (Blackhead Path) takes you from Whitehead station along the promenade towards the lighthouse which can be reached via two routes both with many steps up the cliff but well maintained. Path snakes around the lighthouse itself which is on private property with two former keeper's houses rented out for self-catering accommodation by the Irish Landmark Trust."
