Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Denny Abbey and the Farmland Museum for its rich history, engaging exhibits, and family-friendly atmosphere. The blend of medieval abbey ruins and agricultural displays offers a unique and educational experience. The on-site cafe is also a highlight for many. Some find the abbey ruins to be a small part of what remains, but appreciate the context provided by the museum.

"A nice little museum with a collection of machinery that will make you grateful for modern technology. There is a cafe and toilets as well as a play area for kids. Few bits undercover and information boards dotted about telling you what's on show. The abbey is a puzzle as what's left is only a small part which has been turned into a manor house but you can see it over two levels and again there are information boards or a guide book to help tell it's story."

Ashley Lightfoot

"We had a wonderful family experience immersed in a beautiful historical atmosphere. First of all, the natural beauty and fresh air of the area where the monastery is located reminded us how exhausting city life can be. The environment was quiet, full of oxygen, and thoughtfully designed with both open parks and indoor activity areas for children. Everything was carefully selected—very clean and safe.

At the entrance, we were greeted by agricultural equipment, including an early hydraulic system tractor with attachable tools. Learning about the history of this particular tractor made me a bit emotional: it was designed by Ferguson, and sadly, his son passed away after falling into a ditch with one of the tractors. Mothers tend to get sentimental...

There were also small museum sections showing how local villagers and those who once lived in the monastery coped with life in those times—daily routines, fishing in the lake, food preparation, and transportation—illustrated with visual objects and audio guides.

The story of the monastery itself, its design, and its historical texture were all truly impressive. Over the years, it hosted three different religious orders.

If you’re interested in history and architecture, this is definitely a place you should visit."

"Discovered this place completely by chance, but would highly recommend it. There is the farm museum with excellently curated exhibits, the old abby and the whole is surrounded by beautiful farmland. You could easily spend a day here soaking up the atmosphere!"
