What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Warstone Lane Cemetery is praised for its unique catacombs and historical significance, offering a peaceful escape in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter. Visitors appreciate the Victorian gravestones and the tranquil atmosphere, though some note the catacombs are now sealed and tours are required for access. Concerns have been raised about disrespectful behaviour towards the graves.
"This is also known as Warstone Cemetery and one of the historical cemeteries in the Jewellery Quarter. I have wandered around many cemeteries, thanks to my family history research, and this one is really worth exploring. There are various information panels dotted around and there are trips you can book to visit the catacombs. One grave that is highlighted is that of Warrulan, who died so far from his homeland."

"Warstone Lane Cemetery is one of two cemeteries in the city's Jewellery Quarter, the other being Key Hill Cemetery. It is worth a short visit to this old cemetery to walk along the ancient paths and see the unusual design of the gardens. The original grounds was a quarry which explains the design of the catacombs. The catacombs where built over several levels where the digging in the quarry used to be, so you get this pretty almost amphitheatre visual effect when viewing the catacombs from the south or a nice panoramic view from the north.
A couple of the prominent people buried here are John Baskerville, the industrialist and atheist, and John Postgate, the surgeon and food safety campaigner.
It's about two minutes walk from the Jewellery Quarter Tram/Train station, but don't go out of the way though."

"Oh wow. I love cemeteries and I’ve visited a lot. Highgate was amazing with all the crypts. But this cemetery is in a world of its own, it’s not the biggest I’ve been too. But it’s unique in design. Plus there’s a lot to do in the area if you was to visit. If you like the oldy worldy cemetery scene and like a bit of history to go with then go have a look."
