What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Waddesdon Manor is highly praised for its spectacular Christmas light displays, creating a magical atmosphere. The Greenway offers a pleasant, scenic route for walks and cycling, appreciated for its tranquility and resting spots. Some visitors note the limited shade on the Greenway during summer and the need for advance booking for popular events.
"I mainly walk or cycle on the Aylesbury side of the Greenway, so that is where I focus this review.
The route is lovely, a nice contrast to the town, with vast fields and lots of trees and natural land alongside farmland. HS2 development has an extensive presence on the Aylesbury side, but I honestly don't think it's that bad. Considering I like seeing the large construction vehicles in operation, and the builders are very polite and friendly (on the path crossing) I see no problems here.
There are lots of benches with unusual designs at regular intervals along the route, large enough for a family of 4 to have a picnic. It's also nice to rest if you have physical disabilities or health issues.
There is very little shade on the majority of the Aylesbury side route. If you go there in the summer at midday, you will definitely want to bring plenty of sun cream for everyone. Hats too. You will not be able to hide from the sun for large portions of the route as most trees aren't in effective shade facilitating positions.
Be aware cyclists use this route extensively. They can come up behind you fairly quickly and often use the bell to warn you safely of their passing you. However, it's prudent to look behind you fairly often to check, which is quite easy because of the fact that most of the route is in the open, and you will get plenty of notice to prepare yourself, kids or dogs for a cyclist to pass you. The path is easily wide enough that you can mostly carry on walking but just be aware of the cyclist.
It's one of the few places I am comfortable enough to actually visit myself (despite severe anxiety issues, (social, mainly), largely because it's so relaxing and people here seem really nice and polite most of the time."
