What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors often praise the Van Gogh Immersive Experience for its stunning visuals and the unique sensation of being surrounded by art. The main projection room is a highlight, creating a magical and emotional atmosphere. However, some find the ticket price steep for the duration, and accessibility can be an issue at certain venues. The lack of original paintings and the 'entertainment' feel over 'museum' quality are points of contention for some.
"The immersive part is fantastic! Beautiful and emotional. As my Dad is a wheelchair user, we weren't able to access the rest of the exhibition as it was upstairs, with no lift access. To compensate, they have us VIP lanyards and the manager showed us a short documentary then gave us the VR headset experience, which is wonderful and should be at an additional cost. He also told us to choose a poster each for free and gave us 15% discount in the shop. We appreciated all of this, of course, but I think the lack of accessibility, including the standard, unisex toilets, should be mentioned in the description of the exhibition. Also, the fact that there is Blue Badge parking directly outside the exhibition should be mentioned. We spent sometime looking for accessible parking nearby before discovering this. We travelled from Stafford to London to see this,a very long drive, but would not have done so if we'd known how little we would actually get to see. I saw the Immersive Van Gogh Experience in 2022 in Bristol in a much more accessible venue. The manager said they were thinking about how to improve accessibility but I think that needs to be considered before setting up an exhibition. We still love Vincent and the posters are beautiful!"

"There are no original paintings, just printed reproductions or simple photographs. Many visitors found them pixelated, low quality, and unsatisfying compared with real art.
If you go in expecting a magical, deep, museum-quality immersion into Vincent van Gogh’s world, you might be sorely disappointed. But if you treat it as a gimmicky, quick, visual-entertainment show, it’s fun."

"Lovely exhibition but I wouldn't go again.
I expected it to be more immersive from the description when we booked.
I wasn't into the colouring for adults, thought that was a little bit lame tbh. Paying extra to do the VR experience I think is unwarranted when you have already paid a ticket price to get in. We took one hour to go around and that was eeking it out to be honest..
Nice to see the information and history of Van Gogh throughout the exhibition. The large screens were cleverly done, Van Goghs paintings merging into each other. It was relaxing if you sat in one of the deckchairs. One guy opposite us fell asleep 😆.
I appreciate art but this exhibition did not do it for me unfortunately. I wouldnt go again."

While the main projection room is a hit, consider the VR add-on as a potential extra for older children who can handle the headset. Checking venue-specific accessibility is also wise if you're bringing strollers or have very young children.

Understanding the 'Immersive' Concept
While the core of the experience is the 360-degree projection room, some venues also offer interactive exhibits and VR components. These elements aim to deepen the visitor's connection to Van Gogh's life and art. However, it's important to note that this is a curated digital show, and some reviews suggest managing expectations, as it differs from a traditional museum visit focused on original artifacts.
Accessibility and Visitor Feedback
Beyond physical accessibility, visitor reviews also touch upon the overall value and experience. Some find the ticket price to be a bit steep for the duration and content, especially when considering additional costs for VR or merchandise. However, many still appreciate the impressive visuals and the unique way it presents Van Gogh's art, often describing it as a relaxing and therapeutic experience. The consensus is that if approached as a visual entertainment show, it's enjoyable, but expectations for a deep, museum-quality immersion should be tempered.
