What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Grapes is a beloved historic pub with a cozy, local atmosphere and a charming Thames-side terrace. Visitors praise the generous portions of well-executed pub classics and the friendly service. While the stairs can be steep and the terrace small, the overall experience is highly positive, offering a genuine taste of London's past.
"Came here because its leaseholder is Sir Ian McKellen and I just had to visit Gandalf’s pub. Unfortunately I didn’t get to meet the good wizard. The Grapes is a wonderful little 2-story pub with a story going back to the late 1500’s. It’s so cozy and welcoming and is clearly a local-first pub given how friendly all the patrons are with each other. The food was great - pub classics done well without extra unnecessary over the top aspects (eg. the fish & chips has a lovely batter that doesn’t weigh more than the fish itself). The serving sizes are HUGE, be prepared for the food coma."

"Been here before, just love it! So went here for my birthday last week. We had bar meals finished with crumble and custard. This is a quirky small pub with heaps of atmosphere. A tiny balcony extends out onto the Thames and is always a great spot for chatting to other patrons."

"Not much bigger than a postage stamp but excellent service from the Kate Bush lookalike behind the bar plus delicious well priced food. Chicken burger! Fantastic views across the river."
