What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests rave about Egryn Abbey's unique historical charm and cozy interiors, highlighting the well-equipped kitchen and comfortable living spaces. While the property offers beautiful sea views and access to walks, some note the inconvenience of the upstairs bathroom's access and the potential for Barmouth Bridge closures affecting travel. Overall, it's a highly recommended stay for those seeking an authentic, historic experience.
"Egryn is one of the National Trust's holiday cottages. It's a beautiful and quirky building sympathetically converted with all of the facilities you would expect from the NT, including a well equipped kitchen.
The property sleeps 9 though it's worth being aware that the upstairs bathroom is accessed through one of the bedrooms so if you are a larger party then you may find that difficult. We were a group of 6 and the house felt lovely and spacious.
There is a snug downstairs (with a piano which was tuned) and a large lounge upstairs with big squishy sofas. The heating kept us toasty warm, even in late autumn.
You have views of the sea and access to amazing walks, though to get to the sea takes longer than you would expect (as you have to cross the railway). Disappointingly the railway line (and Barmouth bridge) are closed for 3 months for maintenance work, and will be again Sept-Dec 2022. In low season there isn't a lot going on but Barmouth had plenty of little shops and a good coop, and we found nice places to eat.
Bring slippers, there aren't many carpets!"
