Syon House at War: Behind the Drapes of a Hidden History. Ornate pier glasses and fireplaces were boarded up, and the walls were draped with protective sheeting. Even the scagliola columns were tightly bound – the house had become a fortress of fabric and silence. Thanks again to Linda, Syon House Guide, for sharing the wartime transformation that took place. #syonpark #syonhouse #veday80

On this day in 1553, in this very place at Syon House, Lady Jane Grey was told she was Queen of England. Here’s how the moment went down. Dr Joanne Paul and I were talking for a new series about Queen Jane, coming soon to HistoryHit.

The expansive gardens, tranquil lake, and magnificent Great Conservatory are also major draws, offering a beautiful and peaceful day out.

"Beautiful house and not what you expect inside from the exterior. Loads of history with very knowledgeable but not boring guides. You could spend several hours just looking at everything in the house. All the guides were friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable in particular, Stevie B really stood out. He had a wealth of knowledge but also made it fun and gave the group a few laughs, in comparison to guides at other house we have been to he was a breath of fresh air. Really great day out and we will be coming back to explore the bedrooms as we didn’t have enough time to wait for the tour today"

Stephanie Cadell

"Beautiful house and gardens, with huge parklands and lake. There's a large garden centre, café and restaurant too. The conservatory is magnificent (it was featured in the Poirot TV movie, The Labours of Hercules)."

David Sherratt

Expansive and tranquil gardens with a beautiful lake and an amazing stately home kept in wonderful condition. Very quiet and not too crowded!

Reasonable entry costs. Recommended!"
