The free entry and parking, along with its serene atmosphere, are frequently highlighted as major positives. Some may find it a brief visit if not combined with Hughenden Manor.
"It is closely associated with the nearby Hughenden Manor and the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Benjamin Disraeli who is buried in the churchyard.
According to early records, a church existed on this site in the 12th century, built by Geoffrey de Clinton between 1100 and 1135.
In 1848 Benjamin Disraeli purchased Hughenden Manor.
Disraeli was British Prime Minister twice, in 1868 and 1874–80, and was made Earl of Beaconsfield in 1876. He died in 1881 and was buried in the family vault along with his wife Lady Beaconsfield (died 1872) which is located at the west wall of the church. Royal protocol did not permit Queen Victoria to attend the private funeral, but she visited the tomb a few days later to pay her respects.
Used in film and TV such as
Action television series The Secret Service.
It also featured briefly in the film Johnny English, in the funeral scene where a bomb kills all of Britain's secret agents.
Judi Dench filmed a scene from the film Victoria & Abdul in the grounds of the church – another scene was filmed in the manor house.
Definitely worth a visit, even if you're not going to the manor, Free parking and entry."

"Saint Michael and all angels is one of the most beautiful churches I’ve been in across the world. From the tiles gracing its floors to the painted designs on its ceilings – not to mention the massive sculptures of Saints in its prayer room - it all comes together in a symphony of beauty, peace, and eloquent design.
May God bless Saint Michael, and All Angels; may God bless us, one and all.
A special thanks to all who support our glorious churches across the world. 🙏
May we always remember the sacrifice of the gifts we receive today and its perpetual value in our society. 🕯️"

A Glimpse into History
Its most prominent historical association is with Benjamin Disraeli, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Disraeli purchased Hughenden Manor in 1848, and upon his death in 1881, he was buried in the family vault in the churchyard, alongside his wife, Lady Beaconsfield. Queen Victoria herself visited the tomb shortly after his funeral, underscoring his national significance. The churchyard also features medieval-style effigies from the 16th century, adding further layers to its historical narrative.
The church's picturesque setting and historical gravitas have also made it a sought-after location for film and television. It has featured in productions such as the action television series 'The Secret Service', the film 'Johnny English', and Judi Dench filmed a scene for 'Victoria & Abdul' in the church grounds. This blend of historical importance, architectural beauty, and cinematic presence makes St Michael and All Angels Hughenden a compelling destination.
Architectural and Artistic Features
Complementing the chancel's artistry are the striking stained glass windows. These windows not only allow natural light to flood the interior but also depict intricate scenes and figures, adding color and narrative to the atmosphere. The church also houses a significant collection of medieval-style effigies, dating from the 16th century, which offer a fascinating glimpse into the past and the families who were prominent in the area. The believed original 13th-century font stands as a tangible link to the church's earliest days, a simple yet profound piece of history.
These elements, from the grand chancel paintings to the ancient font, combine to create a space that is both historically significant and aesthetically pleasing. The overall impression is one of beauty, peace, and eloquent design, as noted by many visitors.
