"I had a wonderful visit to St. Matthew's Church in Walsall. I was warmly welcomed by lovely people, and Nigel kindly gave me a guided tour. I felt truly blessed to visit the crypt and learn about the church’s rich history.
The Nave was especially impressive, and the stained glass windows were stunning—made even more vibrant by the beautiful sunlight.
I was also fortunate to visit the Organ Room, originally built in 1773 and rebuilt in 1952–3, and to enjoy the view from the balcony.
The Chancel and choir stalls feature incredible medieval woodcarving, including misericords—small wooden shelves on the underside of folding seats, originally designed to support clergy during long periods of standing. Many are intricately carved and are among the church’s greatest treasures. A truly memorable and blessed experience.
If you're able, please consider donating or contributing—together, we can help ensure this beautiful church continues to thrive in our community.
I purchased the book " The knight Effigy", by M. R. Davies, an interesting story about the effigy of the cross- legged knight.
Make sure to visit their website—very useful information about services, the history of the church, and more."
