Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise St. Mary's Church for its historical significance, stunning tower views, and the unique features within its ancient walls. While the tower climb involves narrow stairs, the panoramic vistas are considered well worth the effort. The church offers a peaceful and informative experience, making it a highlight of any visit to Rye.

"This is a lovely church to visit. We came here twice during our short visit to Rye. They have a series of short leaflets explaining the various aspects of the church, such as the Tower, the Windows and the Clock, each costing only £0.25. Entrance is free, but there is a small charge to climb up to the tower, which is well worth it if you can manage the 84 steps up very narrow stairs and corridors. You are rewarded with great panoramic views over the lovely Rye Town and the surrounding landscape and River Rother."

T Hartberg

"Lovely church. I would recommend taking a trip up the tower. Whilst you do need to pay, this gets you a year pass. The views from the top are well worth it. It's also very interesting passing through the bell chamber and past the bell frame. The passage way is a little narrow, and obviously there are steep steps."

Richard G

"A big church for a small town indicating the cinque port status and importance of Rye in medieval times. An interesting interior with plenty of information panels. The only church I've seen where the clock pendulum extends into the nave.
For £5 you can climb the tower and view the clock mechanism and the bells up close. From the tower roof there are fantastic views."
