What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
St. Mary's Church Leyton is celebrated for its warm, culturally diverse, and inviting community atmosphere, with many praising its upbeat, contemporary services and the welcoming nature of its vicar. The Thursday social is a particular highlight for food and fellowship. However, some visitors have noted concerns regarding the upkeep and condition of the church's Garden of Remembrance.
"I was married in this church 51 years ago, my daughter 24 years ago, lots of my cousins were also married here, my parents and brothers ashes are buried in the garden of remembrance round the back of the church. We went to the church on Good Friday and met Steve the new vicar. The church looks so different inside now there are no pews, there is a voluntary work party that's tidying up the graves and grounds and doing a great job.
I was surprised reading a previous comment someone had written they didn't like the fact that the church had a graveyard most churches had graveyards attached to them years ago."

"I have never attended a service but I always walk my dog through the church. The grass is overgrown, the graves have been damaged, there is always rubbish and fly tipping of clothes even on top of graves. Most recently I’ve noticed people loitering around and abusing drugs on the church grounds. It makes me feel unsafe and I no longer walk through the church anymore."
Jayd Wolfaardt
"This is my local church and it is beautifully, culturally mixed, warm and inviting. The Vicar Christine is fantastic, caring and blessed. She has just been our Vicar for just over a year and she has done a great job in keeping God with us all. If you are looking for a church to attend, then come along as you are all welcome. Service starts at 10.30am on a Sunday. More details can be made available on arrival."
