What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find St. Leonard's Priory to be a charming historical gem with impressive Romanesque architecture and a peaceful setting, especially around the fishponds. While the inability to enter the building is noted, the informative boards and the beauty of the surviving structure are highly appreciated. It's considered a worthwhile stop for history enthusiasts and a pleasant spot for a relaxed visit or picnic.
"Part of a once much bigger Priory built by monks from Durham to look after their interests in the area. There are information boards at this beautiful building with its Romanesque architecture. Just on the outskirts of the beautiful town of Stamford with its many shops and places to eat. You can't get into the building itself but the architecture is worth seeing."
Stephen Edward Clare
"For a small, by the way, historical attraction, this is a charmer.
First of all a lot is known about the place & there are several descriptive & illustrated visitor boards available. And plenty of seating.
Secondly, the information is easy to read & not weighed down with hard to understand facts.
Lastly, it's a beautiful building in a lovely setting that must have been stunning in its heyday. Although I do worry if the bowed ceiling might be close to collapse...
Limited on street parking but a great place for a meander with the dog or a sit down out of the wind with sandwiches & a flask."

"Not sure if they open this place but it's a interesting mediaeval building. Remains of the priory in Stamford."
